The many years of human occupation on Midway have taken their toll on the native plant community. The diversity of native plants helps support seabirds and other wildlife by restoring their habitats through propagation and outplanting of native plants, a major component of USFWS efforts led by volunteers and staff on the atoll.
Mahalo to the many volunteers who do a great job every year showing their grit and getting their hands dirty in order to restore seabird habitats, create healthy dunes, and help the ecosystem!
You can help! By donating or becoming a member now, your generosity will continue to bring these amazing volunteers to Midway, who work to protect the ecosystem on Kuaihelani (Midway Atoll) every year.

FWS volunteer, Owen Sobel, brings you up close by recording and narrating a day in the life of current volunteers, working hard to return native plants to Midway. The volunteers are outplanting, which follows propagation. Mahalo for supporting Owen and his cohort!
