The Friends of Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge and Battle of Midway National Memorial are excited to announce the first FOMA-sponsored art contest. Entries will be accepted June 1-30, 2025. (Please see the following links for full contest details and the online submission form.)
The overwhelming uncertainty created by rapidly changing policies has resulted in many things, one being an inbox full of emails calling each and every one of us to take action. This Call to Art is different. It is intended to provide a pause by offering a creative outlet that will help support Kuaihelani (Midway Atoll) in this time of unpredictability. The arts have always been a place to feel, to reflect, to celebrate, or simply immerse yourself in beauty. When so many of our natural spaces and their guardians are devalued, taking the time to create art that highlights them lends support and recognizes the immense importance of these places and people.

Whether Kuaihelani is new or familiar to you, it is a sacred place that requires diligent stewardship to maintain it as a crucial oasis for wildlife and to honor its cultural and historical significance. Artwork submitted through this contest will be shared with Friends of Midway Atoll followers and members. Artwork may also be used to create merchandise to be sold online and at other locations. All proceeds will be directed to the refuge, enabling critical conservation efforts (for specific work projects, please read our blogs). We deeply appreciate your choice to honor and celebrate Kuaihelani by submitting your artwork. All applicants will be gifted a free one-year Friends of Midway Atoll membership, giving access to our annual meeting and regular newsletters.

If youβre looking for artistic inspiration, please explore the rich culture, history, and biological diversity of Kuaihelani. Please help us spread the word about this contest by sharing this Call to Art, which includes links to the submission form and contest details. All ages are welcome to enter, outside and within the U.S. For more ways to get involved, you may visit our advocacy page.
