Midway Atoll was designated as the Battle of Midway National Memorial by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 2000. The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) authorized creating a new memorial and on August 12, 2015, the Midway Memorial Marker was officially installed on the island.
Etched into this granite “memory stone” is a historical tribute to America’s armed forces. Over time, the stone and its path will create a garden within a garden as native vegetation grows over and between the pavers. The path itself will become a trace that is part of the natural landscape.
