Wisdom’s Photo Shoot March 18, 2024 by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Volunteer Nick Minnich!

A mōlī or Laysan albatross documented as the oldest known banded bird in the wild was sighted on March 18, 2024 on Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge. The following photos where captured by Nick Minnich as Wisdom walked about looking for a single male. She has returned intermittently since end of November 2023 after her former mate did not return during the early winter 2023 breeding season. It is highly unlikely she will mate and find that one and only but it is not for lack of trying! She truly is one of the grandest of grandmothers in the animal kingdom.
