FOMA is opposed to the Trump Administration's June 11 proclamation that could allow for the reopening of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument and other Pacific marine monuments to commercial fishing. These protected waters were established to safeguard some of the most important marine ecosystems on Earth and the wildlife that depends on them.
For all who care about Kuaihelani (Midway Atoll), this proclamation is especially troubling. The waters surrounding Midway support countless seabirds, marine mammals, sea turtles, and other species that rely on healthy ocean ecosystems. Conservation organizations are already preparing to challenge this action in court.
Now is the time to stay informed, engaged, and ready to act.
