My name is Ayla Liss, I am from Maine, and this is my 7th field season. Growing up on the Gulf of Maine I volunteered/worked for the Seabird Institute. The last couple summers I’ve worked for Alaska Maritime. I love the physical and mental challenges of working in remote places and have a soft spot for Procellariids.
Midway Atoll is the most populated island I’ve ever lived on and having an established community of hardworking and fun people to engage with is one of the things that make this place special. Living in the midst of so many breeding seabird species with access to a cafeteria and fitness center is also unbelievable. This season has been impactful and is inspiring me to pursue more work controlling invasive species. Big thanks to Molly (crew lead) and FOMA!
